- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter for the potato top (optional)
- Olive oil for the pan (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined.
- Form the mixture into 6-8 even patties.
- Place the patties in a baking dish, leaving space between them.
- Pour beef broth over the patties.
- Spread mashed potatoes on top of the patties.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it rest a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, you can incorporate mushrooms or use turkey instead of beef. Adjust seasoning on mashed potatoes if using leftovers.
