Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans, almonds, or walnuts)
- Optional: Flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Prepare your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper and set it aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and salt. Heat over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil and begins to thicken.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and continue stirring to prevent scorching.
- Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer; cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), which takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let sit for a minute. Then, smooth it out with a spatula.
- Press the chopped nuts into the melted chocolate.
- Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature before breaking it into pieces.
Notes
Ensure to use a candy thermometer for accurate results and avoid burning. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
