Ingredients

- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic until translucent, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Lightly butter a baking dish and layer the sliced potatoes, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper, while adding some sautéed onions and garlic.
- Pour the heavy cream over the layered potatoes.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake covered for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving, garnished with chopped parsley.
Notes
For a lighter version, consider using half-and-half instead of heavy cream. You can also experiment with adding cooked bacon or sweet potatoes.
