Ingredients
- Crusty bread (day-old preferred)
- Aromatic herbs (sage, thyme, and parsley)
- Rich broth (chicken or vegetable)
- Sausage (optional)
- Nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)
- Onion
- Celery
- Butter
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Tear the crusty bread into small pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add chopped onion and celery. Sauté until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the herbs, salt, and pepper, cooking for another minute.
- Pour the sautéed mixture over the bread and gradually add the broth, mixing until the bread is moist.
- If using, fold in the sausage or nuts gently.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
