- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, diced onion, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Form into 4–5 oval patties.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
- Remove patties and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook for 5–7 minutes until soft and golden.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in flour to coat the onions and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Slowly pour in beef broth while whisking until smooth.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until slightly thickened.
- Nestle the hamburger steaks back into the gravy. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, until patties are cooked through.
- Garnish with parsley if desired and serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
Serve with fresh vegetables and crusty bread for a complete meal.
