Description

Delightful heart-shaped macarons filled with creamy buttercream, perfect for expressing love on any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sift the powdered sugar and almond flour together into a bowl and set aside.
  2. Whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, gradually adding granulated sugar until stiff peaks are formed.
  3. Fold the sifted almond flour and powdered sugar into the egg whites, adding food coloring if desired.
  4. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe heart shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 18 to 20 minutes.
  7. For the buttercream, beat the softened butter until smooth, gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, then mix in heavy cream until smooth.
  8. Assemble the macarons by piping buttercream onto one shell and sandwiching it with another.
  9. Refrigerate the assembled macarons for at least 24 hours for optimal flavor.

Notes

Allow macarons to rest before baking to achieve the characteristic foot. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
