Ingredients

  • 7 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted, softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp red food coloring gel
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 Hershey chocolate kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a stand mixer until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.
  5. Scoop out 18 equal balls of dough, roll in red sanding sugar, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the edges are set.
  7. Press a Hershey chocolate kiss gently into the center of each cookie and cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
