Description
A comforting, easy chicken and gravy dish that warms the soul, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Add the chicken to the skillet and cook each side for about 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown. Remove chicken and set aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, sprinkle the flour into the drippings and whisk to form a smooth paste.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth and milk while whisking until thickened.
- Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning if needed. Return the chicken to the skillet, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.
- Check the gravy consistency and adjust with broth or milk as necessary. Serve hot with gravy.
Notes
For a richer gravy, use half-and-half instead of milk. Feel free to include fresh herbs or other flavor variations.
