- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pink food coloring
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- Mix together the flour, sugar, yeast, cocoa powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, adding pink food coloring until evenly mixed.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
- Roll the dough tightly, cut into 1-inch thick slices, and place in a greased baking pan.
- Pour heavy cream over the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- For the frosting, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider incorporating nuts or fresh fruits into the rolls or using cream cheese frosting.
