- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, quartered
- 1 apple, quartered
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley)
- 2–3 cloves garlic, smashed (optional)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the olive oil all over the turkey and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Stuff the cavity with onion, apple, and fresh herbs.
- Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a roasting pan.
- Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Roast in the preheated oven, basting every 30 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C), about 2.5 to 3 hours.
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
You can add flavor variations by using citrus, garlic butter, or spiced rub. Allow the turkey to thaw completely before roasting.
