Description

A comforting and rich dish with layers of creamy potatoes and Gruyère cheese, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of diced potatoes
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until translucent and lightly golden.
  3. Combine diced potatoes, heavy cream, salt, and pepper in a large bowl, mixing well.
  4. Layer half of the potato mixture in a greased baking dish, followed by half of the sautéed onions and half of the Gruyère cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potato mixture, onions, and Gruyère cheese.
  6. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for about 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly, and the potatoes are fork-tender.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving, and garnish with fresh thyme.

Notes

For variations, try adding fresh rosemary, replacing Gruyère cheese with aged cheddar, or adding steamed vegetables.
