Description
Decadent chocolate mousse brownies combine fudgy brownie layers with airy mousse for an indulgent treat that’s perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan over low heat, combine the butter and sugar, stirring until melted and combined.
- Remove from heat and mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean, then cool completely in the pan.
- For the mousse, heat the heavy cream until simmering, then pour over the chopped chocolate and let sit for a few minutes.
- Stir until glossy, then let cool slightly.
- In another bowl, beat remaining heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form, then fold in the cooled chocolate mixture.
- Once the brownies are cooled, spread the mousse evenly on top and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Cut into squares and serve, optionally drizzling with ganache.
Notes
For variations, consider adding nuts to the brownie base, using mint extract in the mousse, or layering with caramel or berries.
