Description

A comforting dish of creamy, layered potatoes baked to perfection with a cheesy crust.


Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and sauté the onions until translucent.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper (and thyme if using) and simmer until thickened.
  4. Layer sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, pouring a bit of the cream mixture over each layer.
  5. Pour the remaining cream mixture over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, try different cheeses or herbs. This recipe is versatile and can easily accommodate additional vegetables.
